Does my ammonites fossil actually contain the remains of a creature or is it just the shell?
Does my ammonite/ammonites fossil actually contain the remains of a sea creature? Or would the animal have left the shell when he/she died. This fossil has been polished, and shows the shells sections.

So does that mean that there is no remains inside the shell?
It died and was covered up. then the fossil was fossilized by the surrounding minerals. If I was you, I would keep close to that fossil. high quallity ammonite fossil go for hundreds, even thousands of dollars.
